The Industrial Relationist

The Industrial Relationist is a workplace blog geared towards, but not exclusively for, Canadian labour relations practitioners. It aims to be informative and entertaining, and hope to get a discussion going among IR folks in Canada. The author has held management-side LR positions in the past. He currently still works in the field, but is blogging anonymously to stay on the right side of employment law! Enjoy!

Store manager to aisle four...please investigate a ticking sound coming from the mayonnaise display...

So, that wonderful employer that unions love to wax eloquent about, Wal-Mart, has given them even more to talk about.

Look, I'm at at least a little sympathetic to these guys. I mean, hey: who wants the ENTIRE Canadian labour movement on your back? That's gotta be a pain in the ass.

But then they send 40 of their employees to go LOOK FOR A BOMB. And my sympathy? GONE. Ran away. Flown the coop. Call up the Saskatchewan, Quebec and BC Labour Boards and bribe the hell out of them to unionize these guys already. I mean, I guess if you only pay them minium wage, they clearly aren't worth THAT much to you. So perhaps a union's a good thing after all.

YIKES.
